Niletu is a community contributions app from Zanzibar. It brings the ways we already help each other, kibubu, vicoba, mchango, into one transparent place where families, friends and groups contribute toward shared goals.
Download the app, register with your phone number, and tap "New goal". Give it a name, a target amount and a timeline, that’s all. You can invite people right away or start alone.
Downloading and using Niletu is free. A small transaction fee applies when money moves through a payment provider, you always see it before you confirm.
Open the goal and tap "Contribute". Choose your amount and payment method, M-Pesa, Airtel Money, Mixx by Yas or a linked bank account, and confirm. The goal’s progress updates for everyone instantly.
Yes. Every goal has a Goal ID, like NLT-4521. Anyone with the ID can contribute through our web page or supported payment menus, no app, no account needed.
Members of a goal see contributions by name, because transparency is the point. If you prefer, you can contribute marked as private, the amount counts, but only the goal owner sees your name.
Anything you’re working toward: education, housing, business capital, weddings, health, emergencies, or your own personal savings pot.
Goal owners can adjust the target or timeline. Every follower is notified of the change, and the goal’s history keeps a record of it.
Everyone celebrates! The goal is marked complete, contributions pause, and the owner (or the group, with approvals) withdraws the funds to use for the purpose you set.
Group goals add governance: withdrawal approvals, contribution cycles, and automatic reports to all members. They’re built for vicoba, family projects and any money managed together.
When the group is set up, you choose who must approve withdrawals, for example 3 of 4 elders. A withdrawal only moves money once enough approvers have agreed in the app.
A rhythm for the group: say, TZS 20,000 from each member every month. Niletu reminds members, tracks who has contributed, and shows the cycle’s status to everyone.
Mobile money: M-Pesa, Airtel Money and Mixx by Yas. Banks: CRDB, NMB and NBC. More providers are on the way.
Mobile money withdrawals usually arrive within minutes once approved. Bank transfers can take up to one business day.
Limits follow your payment provider’s rules, for example, daily mobile money caps. Niletu itself doesn’t add extra limits.
Funds are held with regulated partner institutions, not on your phone. Every movement needs your PIN, and group money also needs the approvals your group set up.
We use your data to run the service, never to sell. Read the privacy policy for the full picture in plain language.
Your account is tied to your number and PIN, not the device. Get your SIM replaced, sign in on a new phone, and everything is where you left it. Contact support and we’ll lock the account meanwhile.
